Somatic Workshop

THE BODY’S TRUTH IS REVOLUTIONARY!
Learn how to understand this more deeply.
Our country at large is experiencing enormous stress. When we deepen and widen our body’s internal feel, we learn how to manage our stress in a far more productive way. We can decide more clearly when to resist, and when to rest.
In this workshop we’ll share the rich and specific meanings of words that the fitness industry and wellness culture have co-opted and turned into buzzwords. For example:
Core
Embodiment
Holding space
Resilience
Fight or flight
Trauma
Breathwork
Plasticity
We’ll learn a simple meditation to help you understand your body in a different way. We’ll do a fifteen minute core exercise, first taught without somatic instruction, and then again with experiential guidance. We’ll do an exploration of breath work and why it’s important.
Who is Mackenzie Chambers?
Mackenzie Chambers is a Rolf Structural Integrator (Rolfing), a master Pilates teacher of over thirty years, a contemporary dancer, and a Somatic educator using her singular technique. This spring, she will graduate from Peter Levine’s three-year professional Somatic Experiencing program.
She has toured the world with rock stars, and was a formal Rinzai and Soto zen student at Zen Mountain Monastery for five years. Her Soho studio on Greene St. was home to many film and Broadway actors as well as dancers and those interested in a deeper experience in their Pilates work. Mackenzie works with chronic pain and alignment issues as well as with people interested in the evolution of “fitness” defined outside of the fitness industry.
